Look the Part
Most Myrtle Beach Golf Courses have a dress code, but it's always a safe bet to wear khaki pants or shorts, a collared golf shirt and golf shoes without metal spikes. Don't wear denim, tank tops, cutoffs or sandals!
Safety First
- Watch your swing! Make sure that you don't swing your clubs with another golfer within reaching distance.
- Pay attention to your ball. Make sure that the group ahead of you is safely off the green before you hit. If you accidentally hit the ball into another group of golfers, make sure you yell "Fore," an internationally recognized warning for golfers.
- Stay on the path! Although it may seem like a good idea after a few brews, spinning brodies in the golf cart or speeding down a fairway is neither safe nor respectful to the grounds maintenance crew on the course.
Making sure your round of golf keeps moving is one of the key components of golf etiquette.
- Be prepared in advance. Take a few practice swings and decide which club you will use while others are taking their turns at the tee box. Don't wait until you're up to make these decisions.
- Take only one practice swing while at the tee.
- Don't look for a lost ball for hours! If you can't find it within a few minutes, use a new ball and take a penalty.
- Record your score when you get to the next tee box, not while you're still on the green.
- If the group behind you is consistently waiting on you, consider letting the "play through."
The grounds keepers for most Myrtle Beach Golf Courses work very hard to keep the course looking nice. Follow these basic rules to help keep them stay that way.
- Keep the cart on the path. Most courses will have signs posted in the areas where you are not allowed to drive on the grass, but try and keep your cart on the path as much as possible. Pay special consideration to the greens, where golf cart tires will cause the most damage.
- Replace your divots. When hitting without a tee, your club will often times kick up a chunk of earth called a divot. Place the divot back where it came from if this happens.
- Don't leave footprints in the bunker. Myrtle Beach Golf Courses will provide rakes near sand bunkers so that you can rake over any footprints left behind when you hit.
- Make sure you pick up any trash, food wrappers, cigarette butts, etc that may fall out of your cart. Not only are they unsightly, but are also unsafe for animals that may habitat the course.
